Research assistant for Black-tailed Godwit study
We are looking for one research assistant for our long-term study of Black-tailed Godwits in southwest Friesland, the Netherlands. The nominate subspecies of Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa limosa) breeds on meadows throughout Western Europe. This population has declined over 30% in the past 15 years and is in even sharper decline in the Netherlands – home to more than 80% of the population. This decline has caused the species to be placed on the IUCN near-threatened list, and clearly illustrates the need for conservation management. We have been studying godwits in southwestern Friesland for over 10 years and have measured the effects of some key factors underlying the population decline – including agricultural intensification, habitat loss and increased predation pressure.

As a research assistant you will be assigned your own region within our study area. It will be your responsibility to perform all the duties within this region, six days per week. Housing is provided in our field station in It Heidenskip, where you will live with other members of our team including other research assistants and both graduate and undergraduate students. We are therefore seeking a person who is able to live and work with others, but is capable of performing all duties independently in their region.
