OIKOS:
We are an international no-profit organization called OIKOS.
Since 1979 we have worked in the field of environmental and civil protection as well as in the field of communication and on issues related to youth and psychology.
At the moment our work is mainly focused on acting as a sending organization for volunteers and promoting international volunteer activities such as work camps as well as medium/long-term vacancies abroad.
The volunteers can choose to participate in several different areas (environment, social, construction, health, education, culture, art, etc.)
depending on their motivation and interests but at the same time complementing the needs of our international partners.
Since 1990 we have also managed a youth hostel in order to offer young people a budget accommodation in Rome.
Moreover, OIKOS takes care of a huge vegetable garden and a park placed nearby the headquarter. Since we are a public institution we engage people who have to do community service, these people mainly fulfil tasks in the garden or do little manual tasks.

As we have done a lot of experiences in the fields of hosting and working with volunteers we have understood that the main value is to collect different persons with different experiences and from different social backgrounds, but with a shared idea (but maybe different motivations) of spending their time in participating in a collective project.
