Rhanich Farm
Eines unserer Laemmer
We are an English-speaking sheep farm in the North of Scotland and have been members of the international organisation "Willing Workers on Organic Farms" (WWOOF) for over 30 years. We run our farm to high animal welfare standards and with minimum environmental impact. With us live 100 sheep, 3 goats, lots of happy free range chickens, and 2 collie dogs. We grow our own vegetables, and milk our goats. We get eggs from our free-range chickens and bake our own bread. In summer the farm produces at lot of our food. We are looking for volunteers from the middle of April to the middle of September every year, age 18 and over. It is important that you have an interest in working with animals. Experience with animals is welcome but not necessary. We recommend a stay of two to three weeks but we can arrange shorter visits with you, too. If you want to stay longer, we can discuss that after you have stayed some time. Volunteers receive all their food from us. (The farm is vegetarian.) Accommodation is usually in a caravan next to the house. You would eat with us in the farm kitchen. In return we would like your help for 4-5 hours per day with feeding the sheep and goats, bottle feeding pet lambs, mucking out, gardening and general projects around the farm. There are also seasonal jobs, for example in July we shear the sheep and we need help with rolling the wool and gathering the sheep. In your spare time there are lots of options for walking, swimming in the sea, and tourist attractions (Inverness, Tain, distilleries, castles etc). Maps of the area and bikes are available. Check our website for photos of the farm, a map of the location and some more background about our sheep.
