We are an English-speaking sheep farm in the North of Scotland and have been members of the international organisation "Willing Workers on Organic Farms" (WWOOF) for 25 years. We run our farm to high animal welfare standards and with minimum environmental impact. With us live 500 sheep, 50 cows, 15 goats, lots of "wild" chickens, 2 ponies, 2 collie-dogs and 4 cats. We grow our own vegetables, milk cows and goats to make cheese and butter, we get eggs from our free-range chickens and bake our own bread. In summer the farm is almost selfsufficient for food. We are looking for volunteers from the middle of February to the end of Ocotber every year, age 18 and over. It is important that you have an interest in working with animals. Experience with animals is welcome but not necessary. We recommend a stay of one month but we can arrange shorter visits with you, too. If you want to stay longer, we can discuss that after you have been at the farm for one month. Volunteers receive all their food from us (the farm is vegetarian). Accomodation is usually in a caravan next to the house. You would eat and "live" with us in the farm kitchen. In return we would like you help with feeding sheep, goats and cows,, mucking out, gardening and general projects around the farm. Seasonally there is more demanding work at the farm: April and May we are lambing and June-Juli we are sheering the sheep (you will not be expected to sheer sheep yourself, but we need help with rolling the wool and gathering the sheep). In you spare time there are lots of options for walking, swimming (the sea or the stream) and touristic attractions (Inverness, Tain, distilleries, castles etc). Maps of the area and bikes are available ! Check our website for photos of the farm, a map of the location and some more background about our sheep.
